Head of Learning and Teaching - Junior School 

Due to an internal promotion, Marist College is now looking for a dynamic coordinator to lead the learning and teaching of the Marist College Junior School (Years 4-6) from Term 1, 2027.  The Head of Learning and Teaching - Junior School is a middle leadership position, responsible for the implementation of the curriculum for over 450 boys. With the Head of Junior School and the Assistant Head of School - Learning and Teaching, this Learning & Teaching leader will drive the key strategic directions and initiatives of the College in improving learning and teaching in the Junior School.

The Role - Head of Learning and Teaching - Junior School

The Head of Learning and Teaching - Junior School is a middle leadership position, responsible for the implementation of the curriculum for over 400 boys. With the Assistant Head of School - Junior School (Head of Junior School) and the Assistant Head of School - Learning and Teaching, this role will drive the key strategic directions and initiatives of the College in improving learning and teaching in the Junior School.

Key Responsibilities

Head of Learning and Teaching - Junior School works in close collaboration with, and under the supervision of the Head of Junior School and is a member of the Junior School Leadership Team.

The role has three domains of leadership that are expanded in the position description linked below:

1. As a Leader of the Catholic Community
2. As an Education Leader
3. As an Administrative Leader

Selection Criteria 

Applicants are invited to address the following selection criteria:

• An understanding of and demonstrated commitment to the Catholic and Marist ethos of the College and its mission in Catholic education.
• Review, evaluate and develop scope and sequence and action plans in literacy, numeracy and other learning areas as required.
• Demonstrated leadership ability related to the religious, educational, pastoral, academic and community dimensions of the College; in particular leading an innovative, dynamic and rich curriculum which fosters individual and educational excellence.
• Demonstrated capacity to perform at Middle Leadership level including well-developed organisational, ICT and record management skills and the ability to lead and follow through with initiatives and directives in a timely manner and meet deadlines..
• Passion for and understanding of the Australian Curriculum and an ability to lead and develop excellent learning initiatives.
• Exemplary teacher with a focus on individual student achievement and an educational vision in terms of effective learning and teaching practices.
• Excellent interpersonal and facilitation skills, including collaborative planning, communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to develop and maintain positive and professional relations.
• Capacity to lead Grade level and Junior School meetings, inspire and manage staff.

Term and Remuneration

The position of Head of Learning and Teaching - Junior School is classified under the Teachers (Daramalan College, Marist College Canberra, and St Edmunds College, Canberra) Enterprise Agreement 2025, as amended or replaced. The role attracts a reduced teaching load (0.2 FTE) and a salary at the level of Secondary Coordinator 1.

This is a full time (FTE 1.0) and ongoing position, commencing from Term 1, Monday 25 January 2027.
