Head of Pedagogy

The Head of Pedagogy is a key member of the Studies Office, responsible for the implementation of teaching and learning, as well as academic excellence in the College.

This leadership position is pivotal in leading and managing change, inspiring innovation, promoting excellence and shaping the future direction of the school’s learning and teaching.

The Head of Pedagogy is offered as an ongoing position commencing Term 1, January 2027.

The College 

Marist College Canberra is a Congregational Catholic school for boys (Year 4-12) operating as part of ‘Marist Schools Australia’. The Role - Head of Pedagogy

The Head of Pedagogy is a key member of the Studies Office, responsible to the Headmaster and Assistant Head of School - Learning and Teaching for the implementation of teaching and learning, as well as academic excellence in the College.

The Head of Pedagogy works to improve the academic programs and classroom pedagogies in the College. The Head of Pedagogy is pivotal in leading and managing change, inspiring innovation, promoting excellence and shaping the future direction of the school’s learning and teaching.

The Head of Pedagogy will be an exceptional educator and leader with a passion for teaching and learning. They will have diverse leadership experience in all facets of teaching and learning including data analysis, acceleration and enrichment, professional learning, and creating a culture of academic excellence. They will be responsible for the facilitation of key learning and teaching initiatives to help improve academic outcomes and the culture of academic excellence at Marist College.

Selection Criteria 

Applicants will need to demonstrate:

1. A commitment to Catholic education and a willingness, from within the Marist tradition, to contribute to the life of the College.
2. Post-graduate qualification in curriculum/pedagogy or education leadership and a commitment to ongoing personal and professional learning.
3. An ability to provide dynamic and pro-active educational leadership and management in curriculum and timetable development.
4. Skills to lead and manage in a consultative and collaborative way and to demonstrate high-level interpersonal skills in communication, liaison and negotiation.
5. An ability to lead a College wide vision for teaching and learning with a capacity to motivate, enthuse and lead staff in fulfilling their duties.

Other requirements

The Head of Pedagogy would have a minimum of five years teaching experience and must meet or be working towards meeting the criteria for Accreditation C for Leadership in a Systemic Catholic and MSA School.

All teachers at the College must meet all legislative and professional requirements including teacher registration (TQI) and hold current ACT Working with Vulnerable People registration and have an understanding of and commitment to Child Safeguarding.

The position involves a reduced teaching load of approximately 0.53FTE, yard supervisions, and a House Group allocation.  As a middle leader, the Head of Pedagogy is required to make a significant contribution to the co-curricular life of the College.

Term and Remuneration

The position of Head of Pedagogy is offered as an ongoing position subject to a 6-month probationary period.  

The position is classified under the Teachers (Daramalan College, Marist College Canberra, and St Edmunds College, Canberra) Enterprise Agreement 2025, as amended or replaced. The position of Head of Pedagogy attracts a salary above the level of Coordinator 1.

The successful applicant will be expected to take up the appointment from Term 1, 2027.
