Head of Moderation and Studies

The Head of Moderation and Studies will work collaboratively with the Studies Team and the Heads of Department in leading quality learning and teaching in the College. They are responsible for leading the organisation of assessment exams, processing extensions and academic integrity, leading moderation processes for Year 11 and 12, supporting, organising and implementing reporting procedures, studies, and timetable related matters across Years 4-12 with specific emphasis on Years 7 to 12.This higher middle leadership role is offered as an ongoing position commencing Term 1, January 2027.

The Role - Head of Moderation and Studies

The Head of Moderation and Studies will report to the Assistant Head of School – Studies and be a member of the Studies Office team. They will work collaboratively with the Studies Team and the Heads of Department in leading quality learning and teaching in the College. The Head of Moderation and Studies is responsible for leading the organisation of assessment exams, processing extensions and academic integrity, leading moderation processes for Year 11 and 12, supporting, organising and implementing reporting procedures, studies, and timetable related matters across Years 4-12 with specific emphasis on Years 7 to 12.

The Head of Moderation and Studies will be an exceptional educational leader with a passion for learning, teaching and organisation. They will have experience of leadership as well as appropriate qualifications, be an excellent communicator and team player with strong interpersonal skills and a breadth of experience in computer technology usage.

Selection Criteria 

Applicants will need to demonstrate:

1. A commitment to Catholic education and a willingness, from within the Marist tradition, to contribute to the life of the College.
2. Post-graduate qualification in curriculum/pedagogy or education leadership and a commitment to ongoing personal and professional learning.
3. An ability to provide dynamic and pro-active educational leadership and management in curriculum and timetable development.
4. Skills to lead and manage in a consultative and collaborative way and to demonstrate high-level interpersonal skills in communication, liaison and negotiation.
5. An ability to lead a College wide vision for teaching and learning with a capacity to motivate, enthuse and lead staff in fulfilling their duties.

Other requirements

The Head of Moderation and Studies would have a minimum of five years teaching experience and must meet or be working towards meeting the criteria for Accreditation C for Leadership in a Systemic Catholic and MSA School.

All teachers at the College must meet all legislative and professional requirements including teacher registration (TQI) and hold current ACT Working with Vulnerable People registration and have an understanding of and commitment to Child Safeguarding.

The position involves a reduced teaching load of approximately 0.53FTE, yard supervisions, and a House Group allocation.  As a middle leader, the Head of Moderation and Studies is required to make a significant contribution to the co-curricular life of the College.

Term and Remuneration

The position of Head of Moderation and Studies is offered as an ongoing position subject to a 6-month probationary period.  

The position is classified under the Teachers (Daramalan College, Marist College Canberra, and St Edmunds College, Canberra) Enterprise Agreement 2025, as amended or replaced. The position of Head of Moderation and Studies attracts a salary above the level of Coordinator 1.

The successful applicant will be expected to take up the appointment from Term 1, 2027.
