Learning Support Assistant
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join the Inclusive Education Department. The successful applicant will be able to develop an understanding and support the diverse needs of the students in the Junior School.
This is an ongoing opportunity commencing at the start of the 2026 school year for 65 hours per fortnight.

The Role
The main role of the Learning Support Assistant involves working with all students, particularly those identified with high needs in our Junior School (Year 4 – 6).
A Learning Support Assistant is required to:
- Develop an understanding and support the diverse needs of the students in the Junior School.
- Facilitate individual and/or small group instruction to support students.
- Work collaboratively with class teachers, the Junior School Executive, and the Inclusive Education Department, providing daily updates on student progress and program evaluation.
- Assist with activities, including the support of students on excursions.
- Support students in non-structured learning times including arrival and departure from school, recess, lunchtime and transition between classes.
- Undertake Professional Learning in techniques, programs or other appropriate training provided by the College to assist in carrying out any of the above duties.
- Maintain professionalism and confidentiality when speaking about students or staff with other people.
- Be aware of and ensure the effective implementation of all College policies.
- Perform other duties as required by the Headmaster, Junior School Executive or by the Head of Inclusive Education.
Physical Effort and Working Environment
The Learning Support Assistant may be expected to undertake bending, lifting and stretching in the course of their duties, e.g. assisting students during lesson times, engaging in activities led by the teacher, assisting students with movement or equipment when on excursions or camps, assisting with basic mobility needs. There may be an increased level of physical effort required to support the health care and physical needs of students with a disability.
Selection Criteria
- Commitment to the mission of Catholic education of boys in the Marist tradition;
- Hold the qualification of Certificate IV in Education Services; or be working towards a degree in Education.
- Appropriate professional and personal qualifications, enthusiasm, high motivation and sound organisational skills;
- Effective oral and written communication skills with staff and students;
- An awareness of issues in boys’ education.
- A compassionate and patient approach to support students with diverse learning needs.
- Be flexible to adapt to changing needs and priorities in the school environment.
- Facilitate one on one and small group instruction.
- Monitor student progress, recording results and provide feedback to teachers to help track student development.
- Assist in adapting learning materials for a diverse range of needs.
- Help to maintain a safe, supportive and inclusive environment throughout the entirety of the school day.
- Work closely with Junior School Executive, Inclusive Education staff, Junior School teachers and other members of the wider school community to assist with the overall educational environment.
- Assist Junior School Executive as needed with administration duties which support identified needs.

Remuneration, Hours of Duty and Commencement Date
The position is classified under the Support Staff (Daramalan College, Marist College Canberra, and St Edmund’s College, Canberra) Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2025 (the Agreement), as amended or replaced. An annual salary commensurate with the skills and qualifications of the successful candidate will be as per the Enterprise Agreement.
This is a part-time permanent position of 65 hours per fortnight. Hours of duty are Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm (or 8:15am to 3:15pm) during the school term and staff days. This is a new position and is available for commencement from January 2026.
