Facilities Officer - Greenkeeper

The College has a permanent full-time position for a Greenkeeper to work with the Facilities team to maintain our magnificent and substantial ovals and fields, which are such an integral part of our College co-curricular and sporting activities. Previous experience in Greenkeeping including successful management of open spaces and gardens, including cricket wicket preparation is highly desirable. This position is available for immediate commencement or as negotiated.

The Role 

The Facilities Officer - Greenkeeper is part of the Facilities Department that provides day to day service, including provision of safe, functional facilities by delivering the maintenance of building and grounds, cleaning, security and other operational programs.

Key Responsibilities

This position delivers services in the areas of grounds and garden maintenance, and will be directly responsible to the Facilities Manager for the following duties as delegated on a day-to-day basis:

  • Preparation and maintenance of sporting facilities and their surrounds (experience in cricket pitch preparation would be an advantage)
  • Design, installation, maintenance and operation of irrigation systems
  • Gardening duties including plant and lawn maintenance and development
  • Setting up for College functions; and
  • Other duties as directed by the Headmaster or Facilities Manager.

Selection Criteria 

Applicants must have a minimum qualification of Certificate III in Sports Turf Horticulture and will need to demonstrate:

  • Previous experience in Greenkeeping including successful management of open spaces and gardens, including cricket wicket preparation.
  • An eye for detail and the ability to maintain the green spaces/gardens across the school to ensure that the school is well-maintained at all times.
  • The ability to work independently and with contractors.
  • Knowledge of current Work Health and Safety (WHS) regulations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Excellent presentation, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Outstanding customer service.

The Facilities Officer - Greenkeeper must meet all legislative and professional requirements including holding ACT Working with Vulnerable People Registration and have an understanding of and commitment to Child Safeguarding.

Remuneration, Hours of Duty and Commencement Date

The position is classified under the Support Staff (Daramalan College, Marist College Canberra, and St Edmund’s College, Canberra) Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2023 (the Agreement), as amended or replaced. An annual salary commensurate with the skills and qualifications of the successful candidate will be as per the Enterprise Agreement.

This is a full-time permanent position of 76 hours per fortnight. Hours of duty are Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 3:36pm. The Facilities Officer- Greenkeeper is entitled to four weeks annual leave exclusive of the College stand down period over Christmas/New Year break.  This position is available for commencement immediately or as negotiated.
